I don't know why I love statistics so much. I totally blame this on my brothers who were forever reading and discussing baseball stats. I find it interesting what is or is not read and what does or does not get comments and kudos. I also find it interesting that the top hits and top kudos lists don't always match.

And for our final December ramble:

December 28
Todays topic brought to you by: [livejournal.com profile] brandywine28
What's the best thing you read in 2015? (Can be fic, or something published, or whatever!)

I have a handful of favorite books I like to take along when I travel or simply need something to read. This year's favorite was a book called Tailchaser's Song by Tad Williams. This was Tad's first published book. I understand that he had some successful novels after this, but I wasn't able to get into them, sad to say. But this one I loved. One reviewer called it the Watership Downs of the cat world. I would highly recommend this to cat lovers. So, although I've read it before, this was my favorite thing I read this year.

As far as fanfic, my favorite of the year turned out to be the last story that I read this year. As part of NCIS SeSa, the author is still anonymous until Jan 10. However, it was well written and quite interesting. Also not like any other story I've read before. It's always nice to read a story with a different twist to it. And, it's not even my favorite pairing! This is a Tony/Tim story, where they are an established pair. Then a woman comes along and decides to get Tim out of the way so she can have Tony for herself. Evil witch! Both Tim and Tony have a rough time in this one, doubting themselves and their relationship. It is Stolen Life.

Thank you and everyone else for playing this year!

I am leaving sign-ups open at [community profile] ncis_sesa a while longer as LJ is noting connection issues on 10/23 for some users. Sign-ups will close this evening (10/24) and assignments will go out tomorrow (10/25). If you've been sitting on a fence or dragging your feet, you still have a chance to sign up as a participant this year! Of course we will welcome Beta, Cheerleaders and Back-up Santas as long as they are needed (24 Dec?).

I'm always interested in ways to make LJ more fun and active. I haven't seen a friendship meme/drive in quite a while. Is there anyone you have friended that you think would fit in as a friend for me? If so, let me know!

Also pimping a couple of communities run by my dear friend [personal profile] naemi:

[community profile] fffc is Froday Flash Fiction Challenge:
Every Froday will bring you a new prompt. Everyone is welcome to participate. All fandoms, pairings, ratings and genres are fair game, as is real person fiction. We also love original fanworks.

[profile] bunnybash :
[personal profile] naemi's LJ version of an ask box. Sort of. Only that it's for prompts only and that everyone can see and fill them.

There is also a new NCIS community, [profile] tibbs_bunnies:
"This is a place to create art & share ideas to inspire fic writers. Tibbs would be ideal but any slash will do..."

Plenty of fun things for writers and readers to check out!

I've seen a couple different posts/comments lately where people mention how they *hate* a smushed pairing name. I got to thinking that I don't even use them for NCIS, never have and most probably definitely never will. Well, I think I poked fun in a story by having someone call Ziva, Tiva in error. Probably the same way Tony did in the series. It was probably Tony in my story.

Thinking back to my previous fandom, I used them all the time. Some were cute, some were funny. I don't remember many that were cringe worthy. Some pairings had more than one name and I did come across a pairing name or two I didn't care for, but there was surely a better one to use.

I don't even know many for the NCIS fandom. Tibbs would be my official pairing, I suppose, but I don't use that term. Ever. The series did once have a character called "Tibbens", for which I think they had to have known about "Tibbs" when they used Tibbens. Tony says something referencing the "Call Me Mr. Tibbs" movie. They also mention "Tiva" once in the series. I love that NCIS has always catered a bit to their fandom fans. Not enough that non-fandom people would notice much, but the fandom people do. I appreciate that.

Also with both Tim and Tony, that makes for confusing pairing smushes. I mean, Tibbs could just as easily be Tim/Gibbs as Tony/Gibbs. I've heard the term "Tabby", but don't know if that's Tim/Abby or Tony/Abby. Don't care. I prefer to just use their actual names. I've heard the term Gabby for Gibbs/Abby, but since I see that relationship as father/daughter, just no. No Gabby for me.

I'm not sure if it's that the names in PopSlash were cuter? Or if the NCIS crowd is more mature overall and doesn't care to use them? I just do not see the smushed pairing names in NCIS, other than the very rare Tibbs reference and the more common note of hating Tiva. I do see differences through, such as, Gibbs is almost always referred to by his last name, while others are commonly called by their first names. So we have Gibbs/Tony, Gibbs/DiNozzo or (as on AO3) Anthony DiNozzo/Jethro Gibbs. I don't recall seeing Jethro/Tony, although I'm sure someone, somewhere has used it. Hmmm.

I wonder if web sites have anything to do with it? AO3, for example, has tags for the full name pairings only, not the smush names. As far as I've noticed anyway.

An amusing note, I have two NCIS stories with only 5 kudos each. Those are the least amount of kudos on my NCIS stories. My two most popular PopSlash stories have 5 kudos each. The tough thing on the PopSlash stories is I backdate them to when they were written and often didn't note when they were posted to AO3. Some have been up since 2012, some posted 2013 and others 2014. I didn't keep any records of what was posted when.

Dear Secret Santa,

I'm going to get started on the story, I promise, but I have to go to my parents' soon *pouts*.

I am all giddy to see MTYG (the PopSlash SeSa) go live [livejournal.com profile] mtyg_discuss. And all the Chris love brings such warmth to my heart. I'm so glad to see this challenge continue!

I'm so looking forward to seeing the NCIS SeSa [livejournal.com profile] ncis_sesa stories tomorrow. Year 1 for the challenge has gone relatively smoothly.

We're supposed to get snow today, but probably not enough to have any tomorrow. They're saying rain changing to light snow showers and flurries. Dusting to 1"-2" of snow. I do like to watch snow come down, but around here it gets very sloppy very quickly. It's supposed to be warmer tomorrow, so no chance of a white Christmas for us this year. But, a white Christmas Eve is almost as good!

Pick a date in December (more than one, if you like), give me a topic and I'll ramble on.
Grab a date here.

There are plenty days left to be had. Please don't make me use a random subject generator to fill in all the remaining dates, LOL.

I've been catching a few episodes of Criminal Minds since watching it in California. Love that Morgan. Very nice watching him run and tackle someone. I like most of the main cast. Next to Morgan, Hotch comes in as a close second. I was thinking he looked familiar and it turns out he's Greg, from Greg And Dharma, LOL. I've begun noticing some familiar guest actors from NCIS, such as M Alison Hart (Rena Sofer) was on one episode, Holly Snow (Dina Meyer) was on another, the bomb tech from the episode short fuse (Abby Brammell), also Mike Franks (Muse Watson). I recognized Lola Glaudini in the first season from Certain Prey. And there seem to be other familiar faces. I'm really surprised to see how many people guest starred on Monk! I was watching a re-run the other day and saw Michelle Lee (Liza Lapira) on it.

I may have to buy a few seasons of Criminal Minds so I can see them in order. This does not mean I will ever write Criminal Minds fanfic, LOL. (I just don't get a slashy vibe from it!)

The December Meme, which is an effort to make LJ more lively, at least for a month. I had fun with this last year, so why not? Snagged from [livejournal.com profile] pensnest:

Pick a date in December (more than one, if you like), give me a topic and I'll ramble on. Any unclaimed dates may be filled in by randomly generated topics.

December 1: Do you talk about fandom in rl? For example, do your friends/family know you write? [livejournal.com profile] turps33
December 2: What is your favorite ice cream flavor? RSG
December 3: What was your least favorite subject in school? RSG
December 10: Holiday music: love it or hate it? Do you have a favorite Christmas carol? [livejournal.com profile] brandywine28
December 16: What makes a fandom grab you? How does one fandom get its hooks into you while another just passes you by? [livejournal.com profile] pensnest
December 22: Talk about a book from your childhood that made a lasting impression. [livejournal.com profile] brandywine28
December 28: your favourite thing to drink. [livejournal.com profile] pensnest

Doable! Now to start chasing after bunnies.

The most nerve-wracking part for me? If I get a recipient that I don't know, I fret that I don't know what to write and I'm afraid of disappointing them. If I get someone I do know, I fret about coming up with something *really good* and I'm afraid of disappointing them. Sometimes I feel I should start apologizing before I start writing. LOL

I hope everyone else is happy with their assignments!

Very excited to see how this (our first) SeSa goes and looking forward to having a few new stories to read on Christmas day!

The community is still looking for cheerleaders, betas and back-up Santas (which I hope we don't need!). If interested, please check the community [livejournal.com profile] ncis_sesa. The posts can be found through community tags, the profile page has links or by scrolling down recent posts.

Cousins, aunts and uncles in town. I should go be sociable (instead of watching Spartacus), LOL.

NCIS Big Bang only has a handful of stories left to post, then we will open up signups for the NCIS Reverse Bang at [livejournal.com profile] ncis_bang.

Signups are open for NCIS SeSa at [livejournal.com profile] ncis_sesa. We took a poll to decide pairings and they're all slash this year. This may wind up just being a slashy SeSa. Probably easier that way.

Back in June and probably until July 4th, there was a cute little bunny that would hang out right outside my window, beside my patio. The kitties and I enjoyed watching him/her. Bunny was brown with a white star on its forehead. I think I spooked it on 7/4 when I went out to rearrange the patio furniture as I was expecting guests. I saw the bunny for the next 2-3 days between my property and the neighbors. I haven't seen it since. I don't know if another animal or person got it or if it just moved on. I sort of miss bunny, but remind myself that cute little bunnies tend to grow into big destructive bunnies that dig holes and eat things they shouldn't eat.

On a happy note, I've managed to add about 5k to my BB story yesterday and another 1k so far today. It is getting longish, so it may be time to split up the chapters and start getting them to my lovely beta. I'm finally feeling better about actually being able to pull this story together by the due date.

How's everyone else coming with their BB stories?
