NCIS Banner friends locked LJ 2016

***ETA 04/15/2017:
LJ is still my main journal home, but I am backing it up here, and I will also be running *sister* communities for my challenges here at DW. If I know you under a different name at LJ, please let me know who you are on DW.

My personal journals = Solariana at LJ and Jacieleigh at DW
My fanfic journals - jacie3 at LJ and jacie at DW and AO3 ***

I have a mostly open friending policy and new friends are welcome, however, I do not get notifications when someone has friended this journal (even though I should be according to my settings!).

If you've friended this journal and I haven't friended you back, please feel free to comment here to say hi. If you haven't already done so, you will need to go to my profile page and click "add friend". That is not something I can do for you. If you don't actually friend this journal, I'm not going to give you access to my locked posts. So it is completely up to you.

I do have a fitness filter, so if you want to be on that, just ask. Sad to say, it isn't as active as it should be, LOL.

I know, it's about time, since this journal has been mostly friends-locked for years, LOL.

ETA: This post is intended for new friends. I have no intention of changing how I post, or getting rid of any existing friends. I just now (finally!) figured out how to make a friends-locked banner that I liked. *G*

Welcome! Sorry I didn't see you on there. I used to get notifications for new friends, but haven't for over a year. No clue why not. Thank you for commenting!

Hi! I see your page on love it. Not sure if you're a friend back, but no worries, I don't usually write a lot on my LJ. Mostly watch communities for Tibbs, Gabby, and Tabby stuff. But I began my LJ back in 2005 when House was on. It was big time back then. Now it seems pretty quiet to me, but I enjoy reading so I keep it around. :)

Have a fabulous week ahead! :)

Hi!

Yeah, we'be been mutual friends for a while. I can't remember when, maybe last fall? I usually go on a friending spree in the fall (then around Jan-Feb, remove anyone who hasn't friended me back).

I would have done a "friends only" banner years ago, but I just figured out how to do what I want to do with Photoshop, LOL.

LOL I thought we had friended each other, but then I sometimes forget. Ha! I felt like chatting to make sure. :D I'm so quiet anymore on my LJ, I really need to do something about that.

No worries! It's not easy to tell anymore on LJ, who is and isn't friended. And you're always welcome to chat. I do miss the days LJ was a little busier. I haven't found anything else I prefer. Other places, I find too confusing to deal with, too difficult to navigate, or they have too many ads. I'm still happiest here at LJ, although I mostly post my stories to AO3 anymore (and only link to my fic journal).

I have no intention of cutting anyone! I won't be changing how I post. This journal has been probably 95% locked for years.

It's just that I haven't gotten notifications when new people friend me. I don't mean to ignore anyone, but I don't know they've friended me since I don't get notified. I wanted to give new friends a place to let me know that they've friended this journal.

*hugs*

Hi there! I'm here and thanks for friending me back! I have no idea what I'm doing so I'm just wandering around. I did create an entry linking to my newest story on ao3 and I joined a few communities but wow it's hard to navigate right now :)

Thanks for your encouragement and offers to help. If I had any concrete questions (right now I'm right about "what's everything?") I hope you won't mind if I reach out to you :)

Thanks again!

Welcome aboard!

I think the best way to find the active comms, is to go to the newsletter - for ncis, [community profile] ncis_campfire has a good list of active comms on a weekly basis. Maybe scan through those back a few months.

There are comms where you can link your stories to, like [community profile] ncis_slash, just be sure to read the rules and post in their format. Posting to those comms are how you get on the newsletters.

I think the best way to make friends is just to go out and make posts and comment to other people. Or friend people who are active at different comms, or even find names you recognize from AO3. Of course, if they're like me, they may not get friend notifications.

However, many people do lock their posts for various reasons. In most cases, even people with locked journals are open to new friends. Some prefer a "hello/introduction" comment before they will friend you back.

The FAQs have a lot of great information in them. There are a ton though. I'm happy to help if I can.

thanks for your advise! i've tentatively tried a few of your suggestions and we'll see where we get to! :D

for linking stories to a comm, do i post an entry to that comm (according to the rules, as you recommended)? e.g., i have a story entry created on my page, and then i would go into ncis_slash and create an entry there as well? (i think that is how i'm seeing the different authors do - unless there's a way to link a post that i'm not aware of which is more than entirely possible!)

thanks again :)

Yes, in some (probably most) cases, you will need to join the community to make a post. Some communities allow any members to post, some are restricted (like my bang community. Most post are mine- for the challenges, but each challenge story had it's own day where the author or artist can make the post.). Just read through the profile page first - it should note there what is or is not allowed. Many communities allow posting, but want the subject lines, and sometimes the posts themselves, to follow a specific format. Other comes, like the fic finders, they want you to be sure to tag your posts.

You're very welcome!

First post to a comm!

ok i shouldn't feel so giddy about it but i did post an entry to a comm - the ncis_slash one that you pointed out, since my story was slash. LOL. obviously i need more excitement in my life?

and seriously, thanks for your help and advise. i think i need to maybe get some work done today now. LOL

oh - so i have a bunch of stories on ao3. i'm kind of anal so i feel like i want to have the same entries here (linking back to the ao3 page). keep them in sync so i don't have to think, hey did i post it here or there or where? i don't know that i would/should link them to appropriate comms because technically, they aren't "new" fics. (i started posting on ao3 in November of last year). but what are your thoughts on this? just post to my LJ and skip the comm postings?

It's always fun to post a story (or links) and see people enjoy your work!

I don't think any of the comms have a date restriction. I've seen people post links to stories that are 4 years old. I wouldn't post the same story twice to the same comm, but I don't see any issue with posting a story that is months or years old if it hasn't already been posted there. The point is to share your work with people who may be interested in reading it.

That's not my comm, but I do their tags. So I did create an author tag for you at [community profile] ncis_slash.

oh that's good to know that there have been posts to a comm for stories that are 4 years old. i will try to post links to my fics as appropriate then. :)

i've been browsing comms instead of working (i'm being bad!) and have joined/watched a few more. i think i'm kind of figuring things out now. it's very different from ao3! but again, many many thanks for all your help. you've made me feel very welcome!

I only do internet stuff at home. Work blocks so many sites and you get dinged if you even try to load one of the blocked sites. Your name goes on a report and if you do it too often, you have to explain yourself. So I stick to work at work. The most I've checked is the weather.

I'm always happy to have another LJ friend! I think the fic finders is the most active NCIS community. I wish some of the comms were more active. It's tough to keep a community going unless you can get other people to participate.

i mostly work from home so i am surrounded by different machines. i do work only on the work only machines but i have my own that i check emails, etc. on which is what i used today instead of my work machines. ;)

oh i forgot to thank you for adding me as an author to ncis_slash! so thank you!

If I ever work from home, that's what I would do. Have separate computers for work and personal.

You're welcome! I volunteered to do their tagging because I waited so long to get an author tag there myself. I try to keep up with them for everyone. As few posts as there are, I usually keep up.

it really helps to have your own machine when you work from home. no firewalls, no IT watching what you browse, etc. and also it helps me focus because i work only on the work only machines, and i get to use my machine during breaks so it doesn't make me feel deprived and oppressed. LOL

when i do have to go to work work, it's always hard to not have that flexibility. and i actually accomplish less when i'm not able to multi-task. i'm weird like that.

That and I used to get notifications when I had new friends, but even though my settings are to get notifications, I haven't gotten them in over a year, so I miss when new people friend me, unless they say something.

I'm glad to count you as one of my friends. I have a great time chatting with you!

Yep, keeping you around. Everyone else, too. I just feel bad when I don't realize someone has friended me, so this banner was way overdue!

Hi there!
I'm mostly a reader not a writer that much. I've pretty much read most of the stories I could find about Tibbs. So without further ado, Power to the Tibbs!!!!

Hi!

I think I read slash for 2-3 years before I started writing. And it was mostly because I was having trouble finding new stories that I wanted to read. *G*

Either way, both readers and writers are important to the fandom world. I predict there will still be plenty of new Gibbs/DiNozzo fics in the future despite that terrible S13 finale. A few writers I know plan to continue writing the pairing (as well as me!), although some have stated they will no longer watch the series because Tony was their favorite. Without Tony, some don't feel the series will be worth watching anymore. At least we still have our DVDs and the reruns.

Not sure why...I do make private reminder posts, or test posts, that are locked to me only, but you shouldn't even see those. They may show up in archives, but you shouldn't see them in the recent entries or friends list. I did check and you are on the main group that I post entries to. If you go to recent entries in my journal, what's the last entry you can actually read?

Hello Solariana!

First, I would like to friend your journal, even though there isn't much activities in mine. I have read and enjoyed many of your fictions on AO3. I am quite new to all this livejournal stuff and I am not quite sure what is the appropriate etiquette around here, so I hope I won't bother you with my request for information.

I am French speaker and a good pal of jane_x80. She told me how nice you are and how you have helped her in many occasions. So, here I am with my search for information. Lately, I have begun to create fanarts, I have the intent to join the artists for the next NCIS BBang if there isn't anything in my personal life that would prevent that. From there, to help me learn the craft, I have created fanarts, some of them for the NCIS fandom. Among what I have already done, there is two fanarts/collage that might be NCIS prompts. One of them was created especially for cutsycat as a prompt since she is taking prompts from her readers. I was looking for another writer who might be interested to take a NCIS fanart prompt but I don't know where to join them. Of course, I would be thrilled if you were the one but I do believe that you are quite busy yourself, as is jane_x80. I wasn't ready back then to join the NCIS RB. *disapointed* jane_x80 suggested me to post it on NCIS_discuss but I don't know, I have hesitation. Do you have an idea where might be a good place to post my prompt collage? I am going to post it on my livejournal but I know I won't be able to find authors that way.

Thank you in advance to taking time to read my reply. It's greatly appreciated.

Bye Bye. I am eager to read your new story in May.

RPDots

Hello and Welcome!

I'm glad you enjoyed my fics! It's always nice to have new friends on LJ. And feel free to ask away. I'm happy to help if I can.

Definitely feel free to post something at [community profile] ncis_discuss. Sometimes it does not let new members post. If you join that community and have any issues posting, please let me know so I can give you access. I'm pretty sure Rose has posted prompts and collages over there. And I do intend to run the Reverse Bang next year as well. I will likely keep running The NCIS Big Bang, Reverse Bang and Secret Santa as long as people are interested in participating (and as long as I'm around).

If you're interested in creating art for other people's stories, feel free to post over at [profile] art_my_fic. Sadly, although the comm was a good idea, we never had very many people participate. No one has posted since September.

Thank you for the answers and to added me as a friend.

I will post my NCIS collage at [livejournal.com profile] ncis_discuss then. I wish it could be a trigger to some inspiration, even if not use as a prompt.

Oh, I am definitely interested in creating art for other people, I have alredy done it for three writers recently, the stories are still WIP. I still have time to spend for the next few months, so I might be able to create something for an other author. I will let people know soon at [livejournal.com profile] art_my_fic that I am available to do fanart.
Thank you again.
